Apricot Flower Candy Tray
We are excited to share this lunar new year capsule collection by Vietnamese American ceramics artist, Minh Singer. Created specifically for our Lunar New Year pop-up, this is the first of its kind.
The apricot snack tray is named after the yellow apricot blossom (hoa mai) which is a quintessential symbol of spring for people of southern Vietnam. It is the blossom that many Vietnamese refugees are nostalgic for during this time of year.
This collection was created with new year customs in mind – small dishes and incense burners for ancestral offerings given on the eve of the new year, lucky vessels for the altar or for one’s home, snack plates for dried fruits and candies enjoyed together with families and friends.
Symbolic Colors of red + yellow + gold
figure prominently in many of these pieces.
The artist’s work invokes notions of mystical souvenirs from a far off memory. Each piece is personal, and created with the imperfections of beauty and humanity in mind.
